I go by Ruth, or mom, or grandma, or mama Ruth (a moniker I acquired at a dance school). Who I am: mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, friend, cousin. In the past I’ve been Cookie Ruth, when I owned a specialty bake shop with my mom, and Ruffuss, a nickname given to me by my Uncle Allen and too many more to mention.
I have been sewing as long as I can remember. My mother sewed, I learned a lot from her. She sewed out of necessity in the early years and later because she loved making things for her family. She was still making outfits for me when I was in high school.
When my eldest daughter started dance classes I started sewing in earnest. It was then that I learned to make costumes, clothing and decorative items. Although I’ve taken breaks over the years, I still come back to my sewing machine to create lovely things. This is my creative outlet.
